Re: Something for you all to follow.

Had another half hour to kill today during lunch.....so decided to fab up some oil tank brackets to mount the oil bag.

Was snoopin around the shop at break time and found a chunk of rubber back in our obsolete pile.....the place in the shop we call "Area 51".

Making the isolater bushings out of rubber was gonna be tricky since rubber likes to move around and isn't very stable to machine. Thought about it and tossed the rubber in the freezer of the fridge in the break room...lunch time rolls around and the rubber is frozen hard and solid, chuck it up and start machining out 3 isolater bushings.

Found a piece of 1 1/4" diameter aluminum and machined out 6 bushing washers. Next was the bracket.....had some 1/4" CRS (cold rolled steel), made 3 brackets with radiused ends...made em a little long and trimmed to length at home.

Here's some pics of the finished product. Sorry no pics of the process since it was lunch time and time is extremely limited...I have about 40 minutes to get done what I started.

Chunck of the rubber I found.

Rubber bushings and bushing washers.

With the bracket.

Assembeled and ready to trim and install.

Trimmed, bolted on the tank and ready to fit and weld into place.

In place and tacked.

Welded on, smoothed out some, and tank mounted.

Enjoy all.

Very nice hooty. If you need some parts, let me know. No need to wait on the swapmeets. Just email me. You got mad skills on the machining. Bike is coming along very cool. Decided on fenders or color yet ?

Re: Something for you all to follow.

Last update 7/26 and now 12/20, your really keeping us hanging on the progress reports. I was hoping everything was ok, thanks for posting some more, great work as always. That front end is really looking loooooong, can't wait to see it on the ground, with tires.

Re: Something for you all to follow.

Thanks all, just been super busy at work and haven't had much time at all to work on it. Gotta try and make and mount a new battery box sometime in the near future and try to figure out a cool design for some foot pegs....maybe some stash style foot pegs to store my goodies in. Sorry for the lag in progress, but when you do this stuff everyday you kinda get burned out on it a little, but it's also nice when you do get a little inspired to know you can go out in the garage and tinker some.

Re: Something for you all to follow.

nice headlight mount! What did you make it on? (machine)

Was this a little "government job"?

Nice and simple... clean part!

Made it on the Bridgeport, no government work....actually made it on my time during my lunch hour. I like simple Richard, kinda want it to look clean and plain if ya know what I mean.

Re: Something for you all to follow.

Think the look is getting more clear, my friend Mike @ American Rides Choppers fixed me up with some mounted tires and wheels and a fender I can chop up to make the rear fender for it....also another friend Richard hooked me up with a smaller tank to get the look I was looking for. The front end definately needs to be lowered at least 2"....imagine the rear fender trimmed and fitted and the front about 2" lower....getting closer, enough babbling here's some pics.

That's all till next time.
