Re: current build

Skull, Thanks for the kind words. Due to the economy I'm an a three day week. Better than having no job (still got my medical). So today finish grinding and start the measurements. The current idea is similar to what was there. The plate is 1/4" and when done will be "boxed" to the main frame rails.

Re: current build

I didn't like the way the rear wheel mount was going so I went off in a different direction. Happy with this set up. 2" sq. boxed to the main frame rails. I also got the ew trans plates made up and the chain guard/clutch cover (rules. pressure plate has to be covered.). A busy week. Glad the powers that be in work don't look too close at what I'm doing (plant maintenance).

Re: current build

I like to think of parts made in work as "unknown sponsorship". Heres an overal view of the rear end. I'm happy with it now. Now to get the 101 other things done and go race.

Maybe the "unknown sponsorship" could be "government bailout" ..... I hear they are being quite generous.... just ask H-D.

Re: current build

Its been a while but I've been busy. Its finally together and running. Got the starter finished and it works a treat. Cranks the motor no problem and the motor fires easy! I've always maintained that it doesn't matter how fast a machine goes if it won't start. The starter is for a Dodge truck and is gear reduced. I trimmed the starter gear and welded a socket to the end. By th grace of God the socket was just the right length and I was able to use the original hog ring to retain it. I was also too tight to spend $30 bucks at Harbor Frieght for a dolly to carry the starter and battery so I made my own. The "gothic arch" is a result of using what was going to be a rear body mount but it functions so I don't care.

Re: current build

Its been a while but I've been busy. I took the sidecar out to the May El Mirage meet and FAILED! tech. Thats the first time in all my years of EVER failing tech. Very embarrassing. They didn't like the handlebar set up. I had added some bracing struts and they felt that with those struts and the handlebars over my legs I would be trapped if I was to crash. I went home with my tail between my legs.

I made some changes and went ou to the July meet. Got through tech with no problems. I had no time to make any test runs so the first pass was its test run. The gearing is way too low and I dicked around for the first 3/4 of a mile seeing how it steered and how it felt in general before I gave it its head. I went through the lights at 107.395 mph. Way under what I know the motor is capable of but for a maiden voyage I'll take it. I was running on a pitiful 101 mph record and 107 mph is equally pitful. But I have no shame and went to impound to get the record certified. Now to start the search for more gearing before the July meet.

This is the new steering set up. Goes under my legs.

See Ya!
