home made tire changer

take an ol grease barrel amd cut 2 pieces of 2 x 10 boards (or angle iron, anything to center the threaded rod) drill a hole 3/4 of an inch in the center (or 1/2 inch if you are gonna change smaller axel type wheels) and place 1 in the bottom of the barrel and one down far enough to clear the center hub of your wheel while laying on the top of the drum (check pic) then place a threaded rod thru both holes ( make the hols ight enough to screw the rod thru them works the best) then cut 3 pieces of 2 inch angle iron and attach them to the out side bottom of the barrel with 3/8s bolts in such a way as to be able to ancor the barrel to the floor ( you can deturmin the best way to do this for your application depending on your floor) after bolting them to the sides of the barrel , fill it at least 1/2 way or more with some material to help weigh it down ( i used sand) then cut a piece of heater hose and slice it down the middle of 1 side then place it over the top edge of the barrel to keep from scaring your wheels and to help hold them in place. i used a 3/4 inch threaded rod so i got a 3/4 inch nut and welded some wings on one side and large flat washer on the under side to tighten the wheel in place. i also cut a piece of pipe that would fit over the rod about 6 inches long to keep from messing up the threads while using the rod as a pry/ pivot point to apply pressure when mounting /dismountion the tires. cheap and it works
