My memory is a little foggy on engine sizes too but I believe they did have a small block 289 or 290 and the other engines in that year for the AMX was the 360 and 390. AMC stole Fords engine designer to make their engines.
The cars were made up with a lot of parts from the big 3 manufactures. The big 3 was keeping AMC afloat at that time so they wouldn't get hit with monopoly / anti trust laws which they got slapped with anyhow.
And would you believe it had vacuum windshield wipers in 1969. Another reason I got rid of it is it wouldn't start in wet or damp weather. I live on a river and if I parked the nose toward the river the car wouldn't start in the morning until the sun came out and warmed the engine. If it rained it didn't matter which way I parked the car it wasn't going to start.
