"The Glen"

A dear friend of mine passed away in September. One thing he always loved was cars.... he was a gearhead and enjoyed going to the races. For years he told me of how great it was to spend a weekend at Watkins Glen..... Always asked if I'd be interested in going.... but I always said maybe next time.

He finally convinced me to go for a day (not the whole weekend) to the vintage races they hold in early september. It was very very cool ! Now this is not NASCAR ..... but all sorts of wonderful cars racing... (not real racing as these are expensive vintage cars..... but they do get into it)

This was quite an eye opener for me. I saw cars I only heard of or saw on TV. And got to hear them run on the track! I was hooked! This year in June we went to the 6 hour race (which is a real race) and also met some great people who are regulars there.(party-ers). Made some friends and will see them again! Turns out the cars are what get you to the Glen..... but it is the people and friends that make you come back!

My friend was able to make it to the vintage races this September and I was so fortunate to be there with him! The weather was perfect and he enjoyed himself! It wont be the same this coming year, but there are a few of us now hooked and will be there and enjoy and wish he was there with us!

Here are a few random pictures!

Re: "The Glen"

Sad to hear of the passing of your freind but glad to hear (and see through the pics) you got to spend some time with him doing something he loved and that you now love too.

We have two small tracks near us, Wall Stadium, the last paved oval in NJ is really close and is always on the verge of closing. I don't get to go as aften as I would like but I always love it when I go. The other is a triangle shaped dirt track that I have only been to once. I'm not a big fan of the dirt but I still enjoyed it the one time I went. Have never gone to any of the really big tracks near us though, I like the closeness of the smaller tracks and prefer to watch bigger events on TV or not at all.
