Re: junk yards/recyclers

It's funny but I just had this conversation with a buddy today, about how we both liked going to wreckers and looking for stuff. It almost seems like there are no "pick a parts" anymore. That sucks, but I guess there aren't too many people who want to do stuff themselves anymore either.

Re: junk yards/recyclers

I used to love going to an old fashion junk yard to find my parts. Now that they have become "auto recyclers" they just aint the same. They are big businesses now and are not concerned about guys like us wanting to pick out little parts or finding a good engine.

Also I have gotten a lot of wrong parts from these big recyclers. Called for front axles, they sent spindles. Also alot of these recyclers are staffed by immigrants and there is a langauge barrier.

And how did you find out, when you put it in the van and were going down the highway at 50 mph and the engine was turning 5500 rpm? When stuff like that happens they give you another part but then you've waisted all of your labor.

I'm no knocking them really, if you have a good one they're great. When I get in one and look around I feel like a kid in a candy store.

Beezer,

I don't want you to think I am knocking the site, I am not. It looks like a good resource, I even book marked it. Never hurts to have a alot of resources when you need a hard to find part. I was just relating some of my experience with bone yards.
