Unhappy Holy crap! Today, I'm "that guy"

I commute 60 miles one way to work, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I carpool with two others. As we have flex hours, and the route is to downtown Indianapolis, we get in at 6:00 AM to skirt heavy traffic.

I was going to our meeting place this morning... shortly before 5:00 AM; still dark. I came to a stop street that forms a "Y", glanced both ways, pulled out into the main street.

And into the path of a motorcycle.

Now, I didn't wreck the guy... no danger of that... there was some significant space there... but I'm sure the guy had to get on the brakes. Put in his place, I'd have been either annoyed, or outright pissed.

It was dark, but I had a mirror-ful of his bike for a bit. by the shape of his headlights and turn signals, it was a sport bike, and was well lit. I just wasn't paying attention. I'm the guy that yells longest and loudest about left turners, soccer moms careening around in vans jabbering on cellphones, etc.

To whomever that was... I'm sorry, bro. I'm doing pennance, and I'll try to do better.

Well just because we ride, doesnt make us saints. We are all guilty of the odd moment brain drain or lapse in judgement.

Re: Holy crap! Today, I'm "that guy"

Ok time for my confession, I have carried this burdon for years but I will confess this sin to yous guys.

In 1968 I too pulled out from a side street in front of a motorcycle that I didn't see coming down the road I was about to enter - and I was on a motorcycle.

It happens. When it happnes to us, we put out tails between our legs and try to slink away thanking God no one was hurt.

When we're on our bikes we are less visable and that's just a fact. 68 was before the headlight law and I think the headlights help. I always run with my headlight and both foglights on - I got them why not use them.

Don't sweat it dude, you are probably more upset with yourself than the rider was with you.

IF IT HAD BEEN ME ON THAT MOTORCYCLE.....

...then I was probably speeding and it would have been hard for anyone
to judge how fast I was going or how quickly I would reach the intersection....

Hey.... these things happen to the best of us and the worst of us!

At least we "try harder" ...... we are usually the ones on the brakes trying to avoid someone who just doesn't see motorcycles.

Shit.... the other day I cut off a car in my F150..... was on the expressway in rush hour.... getting on from a feeder I went over to the far lanes.... and got a "horn".... never saw this guy..... He may have been behind me on the feeder... and was going faster than me.... BUT I never saw him! Luckily we both reacted well... nothing happened.... He was mad and I was embarrassed!

BUT.... I still believe we try harder..... now there is no excuse for cell phones!!!! Even a bluetooth.... they all are distracting (my opinion). It takes away from our focus!

Maybe on the road it is best to do only one thing.... drive!!!! no multitasking! no chewing gum (lol) ....just drive!!!!
