Hockey

I went fight last night and a hockey game broke out? Well, I am a huge, no make that a HUGE hockey fan, guess being a canuck has ingrained that into me.

My son has been playing hockey since he was 5 yrs old and now plays on a 16/17 yr old team. At this age sometimes I think they dont even know there is a puck out there. They have a whole different agenda at this age, seems it's all about penalties and fighting. Well last nights game was no exception to that.

Keep in mind these kids are all HUGE. When I played it seemed kids just were not this big. My son at 16 is just over 6' and 240. Anyways, back to the game.... It was a slug fest right from the gitgo and the penalty box's were constantly full.

My son, who we will call kgdb jr, had his share of keeping the penalty box bench warm with a few roughing calls, a slashing and a big old Canadian style cross check. Then in the third all heck broke out.

kgdb jr had just stepped onto the ice from the penalty box and he notices his buddy getting a tar whipping from 3 members of the opposite team. He exits the box and charges right over to aid his pal taking a shit kicking. Well let me tell ya this is were all heck broke out and a bench clearing brawl erupted. Gloves, sticks, helmets, you name it littered the ice and yes, even that poor little ignored little black puck was out there.

Anyways, kgdb jr gets the punt from the game and I will assume the minor hockey association here will have a few things to say about it and this game.

Time will tell but I am betting kgdb jr will get somewhere between a 5-10 game suspension.

Ah, good ole hockey, Canadian style~!

Re: Hockey

does my heart good to hear them stories... (wipes tear from eye)

my stepson just started wrestling this year (8th grade). We went to our first tournament Saturday, and it was great. There's no "team" concept, per say....just one on one, if you lose YOU lost it...no bad team mates to blame or anything... He won 3 matches and lost one. He's hooked...

Re: Hockey

My kids are all self-proclaimed computer geeks.I wrestled from 7th grade thru 11th...never practiced with anyone less than 50# over my weight class which ranged from 89-105 as I grew older. My 1st coach got me started that way and I firmly believe it was the reason I took 3 state championships.

'Course then I discovered beer.....dope....etc........never see 105 again....unless I cut myself in half.

Re: Hockey

Both my kids played soccer and baseball. The younger one was offered a full boat scholarship to a college (forget which one) and the older boy made the all Marine team in soccer, all he had to do was re-enlist for four more years - it didn't happen. The older boy still plays soccer now and then but at 37 things are already starting to hurt more then they used to.

Last year the older boy broke his left arm (again) skateboarding. Everyone who worked in the emergency room was laughing at him and telling him he's to old for that. Some of them were just lucky that it was his punching arm that was broken.

They also played some ice hockey and street hockey. They are big kids though and didn't stand to much of a chance against kids half their size that could really skate. No fighting allowed down here.
