Hobbies, anyone?

Lots of folks here have serious skills... bike building, hot rodding, fabrications, and so on. Me? I like to make sawdust.

Here's a Arts and Crafts lamp table I designed and built, material quartersawn oak. (shot myself in the foot with this design- it has way too many mortises and tenons...)

Here's a Shaker style bedtable I built two of for a wedding present. Again, quartersawn white oak.

I built a Arts and Crafts influenced mantle clock, again for a wedding present. (I don't have a pic of the completed clock) I did not design this.

I built the tool box too (behind)

Re: Hobbies, anyone?

I've always been fascinated with the Adirondack chair. These are quite comfortable... Most of these I make (ans sell) are made of Western red cedar.

These are the double units, and the planter box to match. The adirondack chairs above were made from a set plans out of WOOD magazine.

I monkeyed with the planter design, and came up with this one. Again shot myself in the foot- these have 50 pieces to them, and are quite hard to build...

Well, I monkeyed with the chair design over the years, and turned it into a glider...

I can't tell you that Stoney... really. 10 years or so ago, my father-in-law (who dabbled) had lung problems so bad he had to quit. He gave me stacks upon stacks of WOOD magazine, his clamps, a few tools... I always watched Norm on the New Yankee Workshop, and thought I'd give it a try.

I AM and will ALWAYS BE a beginner...

One leg up I have is I'm a tool designer. So I can read a print, and monkey with ideas.

Re: Hobbies, anyone?

Here's a child's picnic table I built for a guy... the price of cedar nowadays, this cost a fortune.

I've built a ton of these Lang calendar holders... this one I inlayed with ebony.

Re: Hobbies, anyone?

My bike builds are my biggest hobby. I do a few clocks here and there, mostly out of odd ball stuff, bike parts and such. Also like doing model cars, got a Mercedes gullwing coupe I been working on for a while.

Re: Hobbies, anyone?

Nice work Big D. At one time I think I had promise with wood working but I am starting to think I don't have enough patients. Once I get a coupe of other projects out of the way I'm going to give it another shot cause I have the perfect spot for a pair of those chairs (thanks for the idea).
