Any Computer Folks Here ?

I have a HP tx1217cl laptop and when it does boot up it runs great. The problem is if I restart or turn it off and then try to turn it back on I hear the fan running and the hard drive making noise but all i get is a black screen (no error message). It doesn't matter if I've had it running all day or if its been off all day it takes many tries before it will boot up. I have re-flashed the BIOS, updated all the drivers, ran the memory module test and the HDD test from the BIOS and they all passed. It came with windows Vista on it and I was told to upgrade to windows 7 and it would correct the problem....still doing it after the upgrade. The monitor works great when it does boot up and hasn't been hanging up when the screen save is on, so I am at a loss as to what it might be, I have a 6 lb hammer on stand by....lol

Re: Any Computer Folks Here ?

Wish I could help LB but I had the same problem with my last computer and everything I did made it worse cause the operating system was no longer supported. So I bought a back up drive to save my info, scrapped the computer, bought one with Windows 7 and (so far) lived happliy ever after.

Also one of the problems was downloading stuff to fix the problem was filling my hard drive and zapping all of it's power. The other problem is I really don't know anything about computers.

Re: Any Computer Folks Here ?

Looks like it was my hard drive failing, it doesn't even make any noise at all now. A replacement hard drive is around $90.00. I think I'll spend that much before throwing out a $1100 laptop. Thanks Mutt, if the hard drive isn't the problem my brother said he needs another anchor for his boat....lol
