Re: thatbikerguy's '81 Suz 750L
First I need to get it running for my Aunt, and her daughter to learn on. (Fayetteville, NC.) I hope to ride it down there.
Then, when they are done, I'll bring it back to Md... and do some mods!!!
Can't work on it yet... No garage.

So, I don't know this so I will ask. Do you know how to weld? if so what the heck you gonna do? For me when i do a chop I go a little nutz well, not really I really do go very nutz cuz I don't like stock old jap bikes they must be chopped to make them great in appearance hardtailed, tooled leather everywhere etc and my own painting too I hate waiting on someone to finish my things that I have paid to get done but they don't have the urgency to get it done

Never did any mods in my life!!! No welder, grinder, no tools like that. ...yet.
I would like to put a set of longer forks, hand shift, foot clutch, and some nice sized apes.

If you got basic had tools you can give a custom look pretty easy until you get the other stuff you need to do the major stuff.
Shorter shocks on the rear, maybe rebel shocks, they bout 11" as opposed to the probably 13" on it now. Loosen the fork tubes in the trees and slide em up 1-2", ditch the front fender, cut off them funky muffs and slide on a couple shorties, get rid of the windshield(or not) and bolt on some mini apes so you don't have to get longer cables and....... VOILA......mild custom.

Re: thatbikerguy's '81 Suz 750L
bikerguy. here are some pics of my GS550, the rear struts are homemade (as if ya cant tell) ya can get cheapish tools so ya can get started. A grinder & some basic hand tools will give ya a good start. Dont let the lack of tools or experience stop ya, just jump in and get your feet wet.

Re: thatbikerguy's '81 Suz 750L
Hey!! If you start welding get a mig by lincoln with gas option and teach yourself it is what i have done and I have never ate the pavement cuz of my welds and I won't weld a frame together for someone else I have a huge fear of that cuz I am not certified but I have a lot of experience you wouldn't beleive how many people I have told to not ask for structural integrity welding something small and not a danger to them is fine for no charge..... Oh!! and I taught my self leather working tooling dyeing and then painting my bikes too it just makes sense in the long run cuz if not I wouldn't have that much fun making my things so much fun
