FINALLY! My New Paint Job !!!

After my wreck almost three months ago, I finally have it all together with the new paint. The pics don't do it justice. I'll have to take some on a nicer day. The silver metallic paint has a satin finish that looks awesome in the Sun, like liquid metal. We used the same OEM, PPG colors, but did a fade on the tank instead of that fugly orange stripe...and a secret recipe for the base coat to give it a richer, deeper, metallic look...then a mat clearcoat. The paint was done by Bill Eno, Rocky Mountain Custom Paint and air brush by "Cisco" of Denver. No stencils here. Cisco does everything by hand. These two guys are the best in the business. Can't thank 'em enough for the awesome job!

Thanks guys, I put the tank on 3 days ago and have been riding it every day since. I'll have to wait until Wed now. The weather here is supposed to get crappy for a couple of days. I'm feeling great now, except for those 3 hours of amnesia I'll never get back. Did you notice, they included my scar in the skull? I'm planning to enter the bike in a few up-coming shows. I'm interested in finding out if "old-school" can beat out those slick customs.

Got a cool helmet now and it really doesn't feel like much more than wearing my wool stocking cap. So, ride safe guys.

Re: FINALLY! My New Paint Job !!!

Bike looks great. Is that a real live, operating kick starter on the bike?

You said you got a new helmet and it doesn't feel like your wearing more then a stocking cap, what kind is it? I am in the market cause all of my dot helmets are big and clunky. The comfortable helmets are non-dot. I would like to get legal to avoid hassles on the road.

Shhh, the kicker is fake. I could make it function, but not worth the effort. I got ragged by some guys, cuz it is a bastardization and doesn't work. Hey, every "chop" is a bastardization. I just think they're jealous, cuz I'm the first and only one to do it. Isn't that what customization is about--originality and ingenuity? At first, I put it on as a joke, but then, I thought it looked so cool and really set off the old-school look, that I kept it. It also gets a lot of attention. Actually, the designer of the Nightster wanted to add a kicker w/ the electric start. But, Willie G shot it down. Probably would have been cost prohibitive.

The helmet I got is a Davida. You can see it in the photo of me on the bike.
Davida Products : Classic
It's the classic British helmet used during the '50s, '60s --famous in the Isle of Mann Race. It's very compact, light weight, and comfortable, yet it provides more protection than a skid lid. Even on the hottest day, I don't sweat as long as I wear my perforated bandanna underneath. It's the only helmet I've found that doesn't make me look like a dick head, yet still has some protection. I wear a medium in all other helmets, but with the Davida, I take a small. It is non-DOT, but don't let that stop you. All DOT certification means is that it will withstand an impact up to 30mph. If you really want protection, get a full-face, but you might also get a broken neck.

BTW, I'm from exit 128

Re: FINALLY! My New Paint Job !!!

X128, I used to be from x137 now I am down at x91. How does a Jersey boy wind up in an area where you can't see the air.

I like that classic design kind of helmet - pudding bowls I think they used to call them. The DOT won't approve them until the company can prove in an accident the helmet will snap your neck and leave you crippled.

I am looking into a DOT carbon fiber type 1/2 helmet with a small visor. I have a lot of trouble with sun glare. I have a 3/4 with a great visor I wear in the winter but during the summer it will cook your brain in a heart beat. I am having trouble getting to a place that stocks them to so I can try it on but think I have a line on a place in Freehold.

I grew up just a block away from Union College in Cranford, but I had to come all the way out here to go to Univ. of Colorado...fell in love with the mountains, open spaces, 315 days of sunshine, year 'round riding, clean air, clean water, cool nights, and hot women.... and never left. Check out the view from my office! (in my gallery, under "Favorites")

Check out the following:

I have one of these too. It's a Davida copy of sorts, but DOT approved.
Med Retro Helmets J&P Cycles®

All carbon fiber. One of the smallest, lightest, DOT approved.
Advanced Carbon Composites Head Trip Helmets

Kevlar and carbon fiber. Only 24oz. for medium, DOT
Motorcycle Helmets From US Manufacturers of a Beanie Bike Helmet and Half Helmet

THe smallest DOT helmet made.
Shorty motorcycle helmets - Helmets Etc.
