worn chains for knifemaking.

Hi there. I am collecting all the worn out non oring chains fro forging into knives. I am also interested in coil springs from shocks and frontends. I am sorry I cant pay anything for them but will promise you that I will forge you a nice little handy knife out of parts you send to me to make the deal good.
send me a PM and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Cheers NuViking Neo tribal bladesmith.

Re: worn chains for knifemaking.

Hey,

You lookin' for bike parts only? Cause my dad has a bunch of old farm equip you could glean pieces from. He's about 25mi NE of Saskatoon - I can hook you up if you're interested (although I'm sure you've got lots of local packrats too).

Both of my Grandpas grew up in Blacksmith shops. I would love to know more about the art. I know metalworking is in the blood, but I do all mine cold (CNC milling and turning). Someday when I'm out visiting my folks I'd like to stop by and see your work.

Later,
Keith

show us some pics of them damascus blades you are forging. I know some make them out of old wire rope, that makes me think they would be prone to porosity(sp) or contaminates? I guess if it is hot enough and a heavy enough hammer all that grease and ferros oxode would be pushed out ..

Re: worn chains for knifemaking.

I have a great supply of chains from farm amchiners. Its just the fact that motorcycle chains would be cooler. I would love the company kek.
Hi tree. Actual there is a few tricks to cable damascus. The first thing is when you cut them you have to weld the ends shut. so using a torch is the trick. Then unwind the cable a little heat and knock teh crap out on teh anvil till it comes clean tehn retighten. The big trick is to forge welding is to lightly tap til it forms a bond then start to lay some power to it. I dont have any current work to show. I have a couple of billets made out of a chev 305 timing chain. a couple of chainsaw chain billets getting ready for the corge and a couple of coil spring and roller chain billets patialy welded.
I sent some pics of some recenat knives that I have finnished. Hope yall like
