So I had the black plastic Tupperware one for years. 3 years ago, I got a chrome one off E-bay for $30... a re-pop "made in Taiwan" job. I noticed the formed tabs on it and figured it went OVER the original. But it was either the wrong one, or something... wouldn't fit, so I stuck the chrome one on there by itself. It clanged on the end of the primary like the Liberty Bell.
I split a piece of rubber tubing and epoxied it to the edge to quiet it down. But vibration formed cracks in the steel at the mounting tab. My neighbor welded it, but it didn't hold.. after two years, it fell off!
Last winter, I got me a gen-u-ine Harley one. And the instructions showed how to slip it on OVER the original. But after moving the original one around in the garage for several years, I'd thrown it away! So my new Gen-u-ine Harley part is on there looking good like chrome should, but it's going to share a similar fate. And it clangs too..
A sordid story....

And that's the reason I never throw away a MC part that is not completely wrecked beyond ever being used again (and then I might keep it anyway).
