VW trike project

Thought I would post a pic of my trike project. This came about after I went to a Brothers of the Third Wheel rally in Jacksboro, Texas. The people I met were great and the trikes were krazy. When I got home, I had to build one just for fun. So this is what I have so far. My engine is almost done and I will post pic's of it too. I will keep ya'll up to date on this. Thanx

P.S.

The reason the sheetmetal is blue is because I scored a bunch of old Miller welder covers. I do believe in recycling. LOL

Re: VW trike project

That is cool, always wanted one of them myself. VW used a 2000 cc motor mated to an auto trans in the van somewhere in the late 70's early 80's and that was the power train I wanted to use. Thought it would be fun but I have other projects I can't get to for a while so my three wheeled dreams are put on hold.

Give us some info. What engine / trans, did you make the frame, if so did you have plans to go by, the fuel tank - is that the white thing under the seat or is the blue tank for fuel, Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: VW trike project

The engine is a stock 71 beetle and the tranny is a standard 4 speed. The frame is my own design. I had it built in my head for quite awhile. It feels just like my Shovel when I sit on it. The blue tank up top is for housing all the electrics,Speedo, and has a glove box too. The white panels below are just covers to hide the battery, horn, and remote oil filter. I was repairing a guys trike and while it was in the garage I would sit and stare at it and that's how this monster got dreamed up. I'm a die hard Harley nut but this thing has been a blast to build so far. I'm thinking that I can haul a ton of camping gear and one of my bikes wherever I want to go. Be in the the wind to my destination, camp comfortably, ride my 2 wheeler while there, then be in the wind on the way home. At least that's the plan. LOL. I will post some more pic's of all the things I fabricated for this thing. Later
