My Trike
Well here is the trike that I built while I could not ride two wheels.. I tried to make it look chopper like.
It is a VW based unit, with a 1776 cc motor, balanced crank, mild cam and lots of chrome.
It took me about 6 months to build it. Let me know what you think. My wife likes this better that my Ironhead. So I ride this with her, and the Ironhead is for me.
The ugly old guy in front is me and the good looking one is my wife of 43 years.

Two thumbs up for that Roger! That rocks!
Awesome job, probably the nicest VW trike I've seen.
Congrats on the 43 years and many more! (26 for us)

No problem on additional information I have several hundred pic's of the build. The main frame is made from 1 inch heavy wall square tubing, and 1 1/2 heavy wall square tubing. The rear of the frame is 13 inches wide and is attached to the transaxle at the motormount points. The lower frame rails are 72 inches long and narrow to 6 inches in the front.
The front down tube is 26 inches and the backbone is sitting on top of the downtube and the backbone extends 8 inches past the down tube the the bottom of the neck, additional support is added to the neck from the top to the backbone.
The seat pan is made to fit a ultraglide pillow seat with back rest.
The suspension is shocks from a ultraglide and a leaf spring from a 47 ford that goes across the bottom of the axle tubes and attached to the bottom of the frame. here are some pic's of the frame construction.

The Transaxle is a stock 68 VW swing axle and is attached to swing arms that I made and attached to the shock mounts on the transaxle arms. I made shackles mounts points and attached them to the axle tubes.
I use heim joints on the front of the swing arms to give me independent suspension. It work great and give me a good smooth ride.
The fender mounts are incorperated with mount for the swing arms and the cross spring.
Here are some pics of the construction.

The frontend is a 70's girder from back in the day. The neck angle is set at 45 dergrees and give me a trail of 6 inches. I have good high and low speed steering and no wobble of shake. The trike will turn around in its own length. The lighting is from a ultraglide with passing lamps and turn signal.
The tanks are fatbobs with a dash I constructed to hold tach and gauges. All wiring is run inside the frame for a clean look.
The Trunk is a Harley Tour trunk and I mounted it over a 11 gal spun aluminum tank. That gives me 16 gal of fuel. My butt will get tired before I run out of fuel.
Here are som pic's

That is the basic construction. The engine is a pumped up 1776 cc, with a counter weighted crank. It has a mild cam, high volume oil pump with filter. I am presently running a very small carb, called a pic 30. I plan to change to kadron duals soon.
The paint was with the help a friend we painted it lemon yellow over white, with violet pearl in the clear coat. The flames are peuter(sp) with purple tips.
The shifter is mounted between the seat and tank on the backbone. The front tire is a 21 inch and the rears are 245 50 r15. Which gives me a good gear ratio, I run 62 mph at 3000 rpm. I get around 30 mpg.
Here are some additonal pic of the final construction.
