Woodworking hobby- lamp table
My son bought 3 leopardwood (African) boards for a project that never got off the ground, so he gave the wood to me. Without a clear direction, I took the least-figured of them and made a nice 21" square tabletop out of it last year, then just stored it. Well, son and wife bought a new house... they need a lamp table... their furniture compliments the color... so I'm now finishing this to give back to them for Christmas.
This stuff is heavily-figured, dense, and HARD! Before I started, I put new blades in my planer and jointer, and bought a new saw rip blade.
Tabletop turned out great, but needed something visual to break up the surface, so I inlayed some thin strips of maple I had.
Bottom bevel

Re: Woodworking hobby- lamp table
Leg blanks
Glue-up, then squared up to 1-7/8"
Cutting a shadow line on the top, then machining 1/8" off the leg portion
Inlayed the front of legs with maple to match the top
Thank you, Harbour Frieght, for having a cheap mortising machine! These (22 so far)mortise and tenon joints would take eons chopping out with a hand chisel...

Mortise meets tenon. Thank you, ancient Egyptians, for the invention.

Very nice work. I've heard the zebra is hard to work with. That looks great.
