Who has hit...
dogs, ducks, 'possums, 'coons, deer, goats, cats, foxes, etc. etc... and what were the end results? Only thing I ever hit was T-boning a Cadillac with a '74 Trident in '74 and hit a Chevy pickup head on with a '52 Pan in '81. Never hit a critter yet, but it is inevitable if ya ride long enough. Just wonderin' hypothetically if ya can keep a bike upright hitting a dog at 55 mph.

Re: Who has hit...
I ran over a cat once in the '70's, Bill... '78ish, on my '76 Honda 360! It was just "thump thump" and that was it. I was out in the country... I slowed to turn around, and looked. The cat was long gone.
Was riding with Hooty one time, and he flushed a phesant or something... about beaned him in the head!

Re: Who has hit...
Hit a Dachshund once. Came running out to chase me I guess. Ran over his head with the back tire. Kinda like hitting an unexpected pothole. A little squirrelly for a split second then ok. Never hit a big animal though.

Re: Who has hit...
I hit a bird in the right shoulder several years ago , left a bruse the size of a softball. Hit two dogs at diffrent times and a skunk on a moon lit night on a mountain in north Alabama. Did not go down on any of them, the skunk got one little shot off, got me on the leg.

Re: Who has hit...
60 mph down the highway and a prairie chicken came out of the tall grass and hit me in the chest, all I could do to hold on but never went down. Few hours late I was black and blue and could hardly lift my arms to the bars.

Re: Who has hit...
We have a lot of deer in the area and although I have never hit one I know several people that have. The worst one was a guy riding with his wife, a deer ran out in front and he hit the brakes, slid sideways into the deer. He thought everythging was ok but his wife couldn't stop, hit him, the deer ran off, his bike went down and broke his arm. Could have been much worse.
There is a guy up in Canada, a long time biker and bike shop owner who's name escapes me right now. He had a section on his web page about hitting animals and it said most problems come from trying to avoid the collision. He recomended if you see the collision is inevitable, speed up. The faster you go the more stable the bike.

Re: Who has hit...
One of my brothers was riding and waring a 3/4 lid and a sparrow flew into him at about 70'ish hit on the right side and got stuck between his right temple and the inside of the helment, it about knocked him out cold he said he remembered the hit and an hour later sitting on the roadside picking bird out of his face looked over and the bike was parked on the kickstand but he don't remember stopping or getting off the bike.

Re: Who has hit...
The summer of 77 on my way to a bluegrass festival I ran right over a raccoon. I'm thinking "OH SHIT",this is gonna hurt! I rolled right over him like he was just a bump in the road. I got my bike stopped and turned aound to see what kind of damage I had done to the friggin Coon. It was still alive and growling and hissing at me.His back must have been broken because he didn't move, he just growled. Being the sick fuck that I am, I cut his tail off and was on my merry way. Partied at the festival all weekend without incident and had a blast. Oh yeah, I was riding a stripped down dresser Shovelhead. I carried that tail with me for a long time and can't remember what happened to it. My Brothers called me coondick mac for awhile after that. We still laugh about that ride whenever I'm up north and see them.
