Got out again on a spur-of-the-moment solitary ride. I'll call this'n
Sunburn/Wing Drivers Ride!
My bride went shopping yesterday. Naw...
shopping shopping, involving family members, multiple towns, lots of gas, etc. I had/have a ton of stuff to do around the house, and started with hopping on the Super and running an errand. Then, without any thought or plan, (and without any gear, either!) it occured to me as I was 40 miles into this, I wasn't going to get much done. The weather was more than perfect- 80ish, and low humidity, rare for August here.
Wound up running two tanks through, finding a great new road to ride, and getting sunburned to hell and back!
Staying in Indiana, Riding SE and nearing the Ohio line, I ran W on State Road 46. This road is a jewel IMO (I live in the boring part of IN- corn and bean field country.) This road was in perfect shape, and consisted entirely of gentle sweepers and hills, through some farm land, giving way to limestone outcrops and forest- both hardwood and pine. This pic does not give this road justice...
The town of Greensburg is known for the courthouse clocktower having a tree growing in it. It's been there forever.
Several 60ish to 70ish, casually dressed people were nearby, and one came over and complimented me on my paint. I was a bit turned around, and asked them how to pick up 46W. He laughed and said I was almost standing on it. As they were going to Terre Haute, he said "ride with us", a nice thing to offer.
So, seven folks on four Gold Wings, and one flamed out, bellerin' Superglide headed west. I can make this statement about these seniors in this group
: They could ride! Absolute perfect spacing, lane placement, signaling... perfection. I felt honored to ride with them.
I peeled off after 40 minutes with a wave, needing gas
and sun block! (Too late)
I snapped this one for a NJ friend who enjoys quirky town names...
Fantastic ride!!!
