Relined Helmet....

....for less than $10! My helmet was starting to smell a bit funky so I decided to reline it...I had everything on hand but if purchased, it would be under $10. I used Elmer's spray adhesive and a bandanna. Pretty simple. I didn't take the time to cut the bandanna all pretty like, but rather just fitted it on the styrofoam after removing the old funky liner....not too bad I guess..plus it doesnt smell bad!!...yet.

Re: Relined Helmet....

I had a helmet that the foam was deteriorating and my wife sewed a new liner with new foam. It really wasn't too difficult as she was able to use the old liner as a guide. Then just glued it o the styrofoam shell. She did a good job and the only parts that we did not replace was anything riveted to the straps. A store like JoAnn's Fabrics has foam in various thicknesses and of course material.

I always wear a cotton do-rag under my helmets just so I can wash it and keep the helmet clean.

Got to love bandanas!!!!!

Re: Relined Helmet....

A few years ago I threw out a bunch of old helmets that the foam was starting to deteriorate in. Then I saw some articles that showed how to reline them. I never even thought to do that with mine. That's the problem when I break my own rules "never throw anything out". If I hadn't broken my rule I would still have all those nice old helmets that I wore way back when.

Re: Relined Helmet....

good idea...I finally found some great helmets that fit perfect, are legal and don't look like I am wearing a wash tub on my head, I plan on being buried with them so now I have an idea when they start falling apart.Cheers!
