The wife and I don't have pensions either but we watch our money, invest in 401k's and save as much as possible. Eventhough we have modest incomes we have been able to save by being conservative, driving the same car (we usually buy new or near new cars cause of how long we keep them) for 10 or more years and we have lived in the same house for 39 years. When the house and car are paid off you would be surprised at how much you can save. I could retire now if I had health benefits.
All that being said I may continue working past 7 years only because I don't want to waiste potential income and have to live like a miser trying to make sure my money last. Also I see alot of men retire and in six months they are out looking for other jobs. They usually get one making around a third of what they made in the job they left.
Also the house has been an excellent investment and my wife is as cheap, I mean conservative as I am.

Mine's easy I have one bike it's a 97, bought it in 99 and it had 11k on it.
The wife on the other hand bought new in 01 fresh out of the crate, she got tired of riding behind me. Now she rides where she wants to go.

It's the newest one I have ever bought. Everything else has always been used and abused.
As far as retirement, I have a long way to go being only 44.
But I too have the issue of no pension. So, I guess I'll be working until I check out of this world...lol |
==44 ? I've got MC boots that old, around here somewhere....chuckle {stag}

Mutt | -Richard/Mutt, smart. It is not how much one earns, it is what one does with what he earns. My Mother, taught me to always save atleast 10%. Sometime 10% is not much, depending what one earns.? I have friends who have made a lotta money, andthey owe on their home,and cant seem to save any... and mine has been mine for a good while. Buying smart is the key, as well as saving.
I'm a shopper, it dont bother me a bit, If I pass on a deal, and later wished I hadnt, but there's another deal around the corner have patience. Young folks get in to big a hurry. thanks for your inPut. {stag}

I bought my 05 V-Star brand new, the only vehicle I've ever had that was new. Everything I've ever had has been used. Every other bike I ever owned was years used. My wife's Scion was bought new, but that's hers, if ya know what I mean.
Technically I could retire in 5 years, but will probably wait till I'm 60. Luckily I will get a pension, but it won't really pay in full till I'm 63.
Maybe I'll be a Walmart greeter for a couple years..... "welcome to Walmart, please keep yer brat on the leash" ........Ok.....maybe not.

for scooters and underbones, i buy them brand new from the shops. but for bigger displacement bikes, i would rather buy 2nd hand for they are quite pricey as brand new units.

Well... this year will be a change for me...... I will have paid off the house! I do have a home improvement loan to work on..... But still..... I am figuring I will have to work into my 60's! I do live modestly..... although at this point we have two vehicles that we bought new.... (I do get tired of vehicles you cant trust)
I was thinking I might try to change jobs at 55 or so....... something with less hours and stress.... if possible..... maybe like a teaching job.....who knows..... I am just getting too tired of my business.....
by the way..... I am 53
Just had an anniversary too.... 10 years ago I was hit on my BSA in Zillienople Pa. (nothing like what BkrTrash did) Me and the Royal Star have recovered.... Although the BSA recovered much better and faster!
