D gets a spankin' new ride!

My mother turns 90 years old next month. She is proudly self sufficient, lives alone and get on pretty well. But her eyesight is getting suspect, and she realised that the time has come to not try to renew her driver's license.

Saturday, she handed me the keys and title to this- 1994 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale.

Yup! Those are true numbers...!

Once in a while, the fates smile on ya...

Cool car, somthing like nine years away from antique status, you might just want to house it somewhere and save it, in fifty years your kids will have one heck of a collectible antique car that they can sell for lots of money.

Or you could just drive the heck out of it.

That's the plan, Mutt.

Boy! What a difference a decade or two makes! This Delta 88 wasn't the flagship... the 98 was (with the Park Avenue clone) but now this thing is like a barge compared to my ol' Grand Am beater and the wife's Vibe.

Sure gobbles up room in my little woodworking shop.

The beater? My Grand Am, with the bad proportioning valve in the brakes, slipping tranny, and a quarter million miles? She's going for scrap Friday, and making it there under her own steam.

Haaaa... not likely... dude's got a casette system! I gotta rummage around and find one- see if it works.

Matter of fact, dad, while he was living, and mom too, were nearly deaf. (I found several hearing aid batteries in the upolstery)

Radio push buttons weren't set to anything...

~~

Before Dad passed away, I drove him and Mom to Lexington for his WW-II reunion. We pulled out in rain; I hit the wipers, and they just smeared everything; dry rotted. I pulled into an auto parts store, got some new wipers and we were on our way. I asked Dad, "How did you see, with these wpers, in such a state?"

They laughed. Dad said to his recollection, they'd never been used. They were retired... and never drove in the rain. Or snow.
