81 Sporty update

I've gotten this far on the Sporty. I painted the frame, tank, and fenders. Rustoleum spray bomb, thank you very much. I moved the coil, moved the factory oil filter to down behind the primary, raised the front of the tank, and modified the oil tank. I also hammered out a piece of tin to cover the battery. When I bought this bike in August my total budget was 2600 bucks. I paid 2300 for the bike and that left me 300 bucks to do this project. I did it! The main reason for the 300 dollar budget was because that's all I had to my name!! LOL! No really, I'm saving for a weld-on hardtail from Led Sled customs. So tell me what ya think. And, I'm not real crazy about the rear fender but a friend of mine just scored a 77 Sporty and I want to save the fender in case he wants it for his ride.Still have to finish the pipes and sear mounting but that won't take long.

Yes, it looks mighty fine... except the rear fender! ;-) Keep us posted on your progress.

Yep, think about swapping out that rear fender and then ride the crap out of it. Looks groovy to me!

I have already commented on the rear fender and you mentioned it so I won't have to so other then the rear fender the bike is looking sharp. I really like the raised tank. Nothing looks more agressive then a Sporty in black, someday I might have to try one again.

Thanx guys. I will post the finished bike shortly and then it's back on the VW trike. Ya know, there's not alot of activity on this board but for some reason, I like it. But, I have always rooted for the underdog. LOL. Have a good evening.

We're more of an elite group, quality over quantity.
