The #1 Thing I hate to do is......
look for a fucking job!! I have always hated it. Now, there is a new reason to hate it. It's called "the information age". Go to a place and ask if they are hiring and more than likely you will be told to go ONLINE and apply. Wow!! What a great idea. Let's read applications submitted online so we can pick who we want to hire without ever seeing the fuckers! The jobs I apply for are mechanic (automotive technician), truck driving (I have a squeeky clean class A CDL), and teacher (yes, I am certified in Texas to teach high school english, history, business, and special education). If you see me, you say to yourself "This dude looks like a mechanic or truck driver". If I am cleaned up, I can pass for a teacher. Guess how long I have been looking for a job. 2 months! Try to be a truck driver that doesn't want to go over the road. I thought I had a good driving job, but my credit was below 700. Can you fucking believe that!? The old man who is the sole proprietor of the company is really paranoid about his money (sounds like he must be a crook thinking like that, kinda like the guy who lives a mile back in the woods and chains all his shit he has stolen to trees), so all his employees must have a 700 or better credit score. WTF!! I thought that a low score meant you didn't pay your bills, which means you probably don't have enough money, ergo, you do not steal!!
Anyways, back to the main bitch I have. Picking out who to interview by what someone types into an online application seems like a pretty fucked-up way to hire employees. When I was doing the hiring, I could tell if most people were worth a shit the first time I saw them come in for an application. I have even told people to stay and fill it out so I could interview them then. Remember that? Going out looking for a job and coming home with one? Huh, ya' remember? Starting to work the next day? Well, my friends, that shit's gone!! How is someone going to know that I am 6'3", 250lbs., been stabbed twice and shot once, and I can fix your damned truck as well as drive it; or that I can get a bunch of hormone crazed, borderline criminal, heathenistic, hooligan, hard-dicked, wet-crotched , teenaged boys and girls excited about english, history, or business without seeing and talking to me? I'm tellin' you all, it's a shit-can.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post, I do feel better now that I have got this off my chest
Again, Thank You:
John

Yup...just one of the reasons I've stuck with the job I have for so long. I've looked a couple times thinking I might move on, but no one does the "personal" hiring anymore. I know a lot of people that can do the computer thing better than a lot of others, make it look like the perfect candidate, but you see them face-to-face and you'ld swear they were living in a box under a bridge and half mongoloid. There's a lot you can tell about people just by talking to them. Whether they know their shit but are lazy and full of bullshit, a little lacking in knowledge but willing to work hard and learn, or trying to drop into a position just to make a quick few coins and move on.
I agree, the online app thing is total bullshit.

Can't add much more to that...except I agree 100%! Got the same problem coming up here, about do be done welding school, and at the the same time the course is over, my unemployment runs out. We'll see how much fun that's gonna be, finding a job on the web! Not sure I want to work at a place that would hire me without meeting me first, only reading my resume online...that's the problem with the wat the world is going...

Agreed, sometimes I have to say "Stop the world and let me off". Just when you catch up to life something else changes and it's a learning curve all over again. I am stuck in the 60's and sure miss the simple life, things are so complicated now. I have a little over 4 yrs until I retire then I can tell technology to go fuck its self. Good luck with the employment game.

Re: The #1 Thing I hate to do is......
I don't mind the computer applications but you have to realize a few things if your applying with big companies the HR people almost always delete their inboxes on their computers on Monday morning and chances are your application will not be seen if you sent in an app on the weekend. Send it again on Tuesday and if you really want the job don't be afraid to send it everyday.
Also don't put anything on your app that gives your age away like the year you graduated and don't get to wordy with the app.
Good parts about computerized applications are you can really make yourself sound good and always put on your app something that makes you seem special or outstanding.
Bad parts are, if the HR or some of the higher ups are women they are trying to fill positions with more women. When a women gets in a position of power they become extremely prejudice against men. They delete a mans app and save the womens apps.
Up here we can still knock on doors and ask to speak to whoever the HR person is (in some cases) and the best way to get a job is to know someone at the company and have them talk you up and give the HR person your app. Some companies post job "apply in person".
I am in the same boat for over a year now and am close to retirement anyway but I don't want to retire. I enjoy work. Work is different at this age, not like when I was 20.
The worst part of being unemployed now is that they can find work for 17,000,000 illegal aliens but can't find work for someone who has lived and worked in this country all of his life and just wants to keep on working for atleast another 10 years. I feel the country has pulled the rug out from under me and the town I live in just raised my property taxes 58%.
Sorry to steel your rant post with a rant of my own.
Kevin don't be to quick to retire.

Hey Mutt, thanks for the tips, and you're excused! Rant all you want about that situation! Amy put her first application in Monday morning, was interviewed on the spot, and starts work Tuesday! At least one of us will be working!

I can USUALLY judge a person's character by their writings as well. Roll with it, keep pluggin' on, and a door will open for you. Good luck!

I understand where you are coming from. But from what you have said here, you are a smart man and I believe that you will find what you are looking for. I always had trouble finding work in the past because of my appearance. I actually had jobs where I had to wear long sleeve shirts year round. Luckily I'm retired now. I do hope that you find what you're looking for. Good luck. In the mean time, go for a ride. Later

That's cause she put her pictures in with her application, I wouldn't try that with pictures of you in your application.
Right now the jobs are going to women, minorities and the young and sometimes even the young are having troubles. I go to a liquor store to buy beer and talked to the young guys staffing the place. They are the most well educated stock boys anywhere in the world. The one guy has a masters, it must have been in the wrong subject though. It's just the way the world is right now, it has to get better sooner or later.
