Winnipeg, 650xs, what else is new?
Hey all, I got an invite from r0yal at Chopper Underground to join this site, apparently the 650xs crowd from Wpg is well represented here, well here's another one now.
I just got (August 08) a '83 650xs that I started cuting up, don't really know what I'm doing yet, but the cuts are made so no turning back... here it is as it stands:
I kept the swing arm and shock so that I could still move it around for now. Gonna hardtail it. I have a couple mustang tanks, not sure which I'll use yet, a large one that sits up high on a small one that's set low... likely the small.
Not sure if I'll build my own hardtail or not either, G&L choppers makes a nice weld-on and TC bros are cheap and fast, but they only do a 3" stretch...
Anyways, hopefully it's on the road, even if in a ratty way, by riding season... if anyone local has chopper parts they would sell for cheap, post it, I may be interested, always looking:
blinkers, forks, rims, SOLO SEAT!!!, wiring harness, whatever, let me know. Shipping up here from the states is a bitch.
I'd take this one though.

Welcome XSDAD. Looks like you have the start to a pretty good project there, the XS's are great chop material. I like at least 4". preferably a 6" stretch on the xs rear section. Have a look here: http://www.bikersforums.net/forums/f...-made-easy-36/
Enjoy the forum.

Re: Winnipeg, 650xs, what else is new?
thanks for the welcome, I checked out that link, I've seen it somewhere before, can't remember where, but I like it, good write-up, and that's why I left the swingarm on in the first place. That's likely the way I'll go. I'm thinking a 5" stretch.
Know of any good steel suppliers in Wpg, DOM, CREW? Would need a place that can make the bends for me too. I have all the welding tools (and welder) that I need.

There are a few places, one is on Higgins just by the curve close to the louise bridge, the other is the metal supermarket and they are around fife street or somewhere out there. The bends are simple bends so you should have no problem getting them done or doing them at home. What size DOM are you going to use?
Actually i just looked and the metal supermarket is at 1530 church. Probably your best bet, they have no minimum.

Actually, I'll likely use CREW, typical .120, 1 1/8".
