Not many posts, but kinda FuNuGy

I've been away mostly because I listen to music when I surf and when I come here the multiple music playing sounds like ass. I've been around for a couple years but I wanna choose my music, not the websites I visit.

That being said, I'm 51, grew up on bikes and currently have 4 bikes here. 2 are mine, 2 are my wife's. One of mine is in the ingredient stage, building a metric hardtail retro fattie with the intention of it looking like something from the 1930s without being a clone or fake of any particular bike or make. It's being built using parts from Indian, HD, Yamaha, Vespa, BMW, BSA, Kawasaki and anything I think will fit the look without being so obvious that it takes over the whole vibe. I'm removing all branding since no manufacturer is paying for this build - I don't think any of them deserve to have their name on it. (I do that with most of my bikes). I'll probably put my own name on it when I'm done since I designed and am building the damn thing, not HD, Indian, BAS, Yamaha or anyone else. Let's just call it global sourcing for my own conglomeration of goodies (... like none of the big cycle corporations do that). LOL

The best thing anyone could say to me when I'm done would be "Fuckin cool ... but ... what the hell IS that?!".

Cheers,
- JJ

Very nice, I kind of have a vision of what you are building but would really like to see progress pics as it goes along.

As for the music, just minimize that box and it wont come on. Thanks for popping in.

This is what I started with. A 1977 Yamaha XS650 that was setup for ice racing on frozen lakes & rivers in Wisconsin. Hey - when the snow flies we don't all put our bikes away. Some guys around here are crazy enough to stud MX tires and race on the ice. You can see the wrapped ice tires on aluminum shouldered rims in the left side of the pic at the front of the trailer. They're wrapped in pieces of old innertubes because Kold Kutter Studs are friggin razor sharp and will cut the crap out of you if they aren't wrapped and you handle them without heavy leather gloves.

The guy I got this bike from sold me the ice racer (titled, running, jetted for wide open piped & fast as hell) with a spare good motor/trans, 3 sets of wheels & tires and 4 boxes of parts for $300. He was going to street the bike but has about 8 bikes he's working on and this one wasn't going to make as much money as the others he was doing so he decided to bail on the XS and I was at the right place at the right time ... with $300 burning a hole in my pocket.

The night I got it home:

Here's a pic I took during one stage of mock up of parts after I got the hardtail on (bought on fleabay from TC Bros). Nothing carved in stone, but this is the direction it's going in:

FLH rear fender, Indian dash panel, Kawasaki Police seat, Kawasaki Drifter 4 gallon tank & a ton more on the bench just out of the frame of the picture.

The front end in this pic is still the ice setup with the motocross bars on it. I have a girder I'm putting on it but the asshat I bought it from (over the internet) neglected to tell me that all the bushings in it are worn unevenly from the thing not being built right in the first place. I have a guy who's going to fix it though. It's one seriously tits front end. If you look closely at this picture, you can spot the girder right behind the fan in the left-center of the pic.

I'm not using the cast wheel in these shots since that's not the look I'm going for. I have some XS Special spoked wheels that I'll use if I don't go with the shouldered aluminum rims.

Cheers,
- JJ

That girder really looks like it's built industrial strength size. Looks like a fun project.

I think if I lived in Michigan and bought a bike set up for the ice I would have kept the studs and used it for winter cruises in the snow. Haven't had a bike that would be real good in the snow since the 60's and think it would be fun. Of course in this area we don't get that much snow and I don't like the cold so maybe I wouldn't.

Guy around here is selling a 650 to $375.00 but I have a project already and my wife says I don't need anymore projects.
