Hi Folks! Introducing myself

Hiya,
I joined up just over a week ago. I have the distinction of being the 500th member, I think... I'm still waiting for that special gold-plated toaster oven though. (hint hint)

OK so here's a bit about me to intro myself:

Born in London England back in 1962, male and found myself heterosexual... sighed in relief when I found that out!
Grew up normally with a younger brother and sister. In 1978 my family moved to Canterbury Kent and I was lucky enough to walk into an apprenticeship as a carpenter/joiner.
At the tender age of 16 my parents got me into motorbikes by suggesting I ought to have one to go to work. No arguements from me on that front! So I splashed out and bought moped. Nothing to be ashamed of it, was quite a common thing in the UK for a first bike.
Owning a Harley in the UK is a dream few bikers ever see realised. The weather ain't so good for 'em either, plus thieving bastards tend to target bikes like that a lot. At least in the areas I frequented.

Years went by and I upgraded from bike to bike, always Japs ones, the early ones were dirt bikes, but later I went over to street bikes. I love rat bikes and survival bikes, influenced by seeing the Mad Max films I guess. I have yet to have the nerve to "rat" my own bike. But I'm getting there a little bit at a time.

So during my life in the UK I pretty much rode to work by bike every day for the next 25 years and went to so many rallys and biker events I've lost count of 'em. In the meantime I got myself married in 1988, got my wife into bikes and we went everywhere on 'em. Had two daughters in the early 90's. But, sadly, got divorced in 2001, she cleared off to Scotland taking the kids with her.
I met a new lady in my life, 6 months later she got cancer, had chemeotherapy and radiotherapy and survived it, and is minus a few bits and pieces, but better that than in a box in the ground we thought.

Net result was that our personal dramas made us re-assess our lives and we decided to leave the UK and move lock, stock and Kawasaki to Normandy, France and start a new life. We've been here since 2004 and still enjoy it.
We've converted our attic into 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. (Alison discovered she had a hidden talent as a plasterer and painter). We've got another bathroom to be built soon. The plan is to open a B&B business one day, but there doesn't seem to be any urgency right now as we're getting by ok with me making a modest income being a pin-up artist.

So that's it for me right now.

Here's a pic of my bike, I did the paint job myself, it pisses my best mate off no end as everyone looks at my bike instead of his shiny GPz1100 whenever we went out on our bikes together. LOL!!

I had an email from my best mate, (I sent him the link to this forum) he clocked this posting and said his bike is a ZRX1100 not a GPz1100. It looks like one in my book, anyway... He also demanded I make a full page apology with a correction of said typo. And while he was in full rant mode wanted a refraction of a slanderous statement. Whatever slanderous statement that is I have no idea. So Paul, this is all you're gonna get, me ol' buddy, chum, pal!!

The only other "custom" modification is the top yoke, I designed and had it made to accept motocross bars, the original drop-type bars killed my back after a few miles.

So that's about it for me right now.

I sign my drawings "Biker" and it's a handle I've used for about 10 years now. So excuse me if I sign it as that now and then.

Bye for now

Moi.

Biker,
Again Welcome aboard. So what was the deciding factor that made ya move to France . Weather, economy, or just needed a change of pace?

Welcome, Bikerbloke! Glad you're here!

Hey, I live with a cancer survivor myself. To celebrate her 50th birthday, and being cancer free for a year, she got this ink done...

Great intro, Biker... glad you're here!

Re: Hi Folks! Introducing myself

Hiya,
Thanks for the replies. Glad the intro was worth reading. I did think I'd blathered on a bit too much, but ya never know until you read back over it. Anyway it's done and dusted now.

Odin, yeah I was much releived to find myself hetero LOL! Imagine having to explain being gay to my kids... no, wait a sec' that's not right... ummmm. Oh now I'm all confused!

Kevin. I've created an album here at the forum and uploaded 3 drawings to it, trouble is I'm not sure how to find it again. Help?

Meantime have a gander here: Biker - RedBubble

That's just one of the places I have on the internet. The website above is based in Aussieland and has tons of stuff to buy, some good "Biker stuff" too (besides my own scribblings of course.)

cnclee. Motivating factor for moving to France? Hmmm I guess the most deciding thing was afraid of getting to 50 and then saying "If only..."

I had a good steady job and regular income as a carpenter, I worked part time as a Fire-Fighter too. So I had a nice little comfort zone going on there, but we both decided that if we didn't try something different we'd never know if we could do it or not. No regrets... so far. Though I still feel as though I've opted out of real life. Not a good thing in some respects. Life should have some challenges, I feel like I've retired... without the pension.

Roger Mason check out the link I posted above. Enjoy!

Big D. Nice tat man, now that's one she can wear with pride. Alison's got 3 tattoos, all from where the radiotherapist wanted set up the machine on her each time she had the treatment. Looks like your missus and mine had the same flavour cancer. Glad to hear she's clear of it too. Alison's been clear now for 6 years, she came off the meds last mid last year. It was hellish, so be warned! Made PMS look like a tea party LOL!!.

Ok I gotta dash, catch yuz'll later.
