After finishing the Sporty and riding it for a year, my wife enjoyed going to the bike shows and events...but think she kinda felt left out a little by always having to drive the car...sooo...she says she wishes we had a bike that we could both ride on. I found an 05 Softail that was kinda banged up a little..nothing major just some dings in the sheet metal, no frame damage or any major damage...showed it to her one day and said if we could find something like this that needs minimal repair it would be perfect for us to trot around on. Came home from work one day and she said let's go look at that softail and see in person what it really needs...so we go and check it out and it's in pretty damn good shape...looks better in person than in pics. Well she had already had one of my riding buddies go check it out and had already had all the paperwork done without me knowing about it....she said load it up and we'll take it home...so we did!
Here it is as we bought it
After getting it home we started stripping it down, left the engine in the frame but completely stripped everything else...had to pull the wiring harness out and thoroughly go over it because the battery spilled acid all over it...pain in the ass! Wifey was in the garage with me daily gettin dirt, grime, grease and oil under her very manicured fingernails...so we went to town getting this thing ready to ride again.
Here it is stripped..or mostly stripped, not alot of pics because we were working on a time schedule set by the bank and BMV.
Then I started diggin around in my stash to see what I had and what we needed to order, had most of the parts but still needed a few. Sent the tins to a very good friend of mine to let him do his magic on...D and Lou know who i'm talking about...this boys pretty good with a spray gun.
Here it is up on the lift with nothing left to do except put the tins back on...gotta thank Mike for hooking me up with mounting my tires for me on short notice.
While i'm buttoning up small things like relocating the front signals down on the forward controls, bleeding brakes, internally wiring bars, lowering forks and swingarm...just things to do while tins are being repaired...my buddy sent me pics of the paint.
That's crushed blue pearl outside the pinstripe and black inside the stripes with 96 Heritage tank decals...you all know badging my bike with an HD logo is a huge step for me because the first thing I normally do is strip em of everything that sayd Harley Davidson, but for some reason I just liked this look....maybe I had been drinking too much Beam and smoking too much pot??
Here it is back together and ready to roll...since this pic was taken it has been fitted with Bub Jug Huggers and a couple other small things changed.
Gotta say this is one smooth ride, around 60-65 mph it turns into a Honda...smooth power and a smooth ride.
So total?...under 10K miles and $6500.00...not bad for a Softail.
Hope y'all enjoyed
