This isn't really a build or a project, but I'll post it here. Some of you have seen this next door, where I've posted this progress
ad nauseum.
When I finally got back into riding after a 26 year absence, I started looking for the best and cheapest big twin I could find. I found this pristine 2000 FXD in Michigan, with 7K on the clock.
Why the hell I quit riding in 1980 I cannot tell you. Anyway, then I started making this thing my own. You've heard the cliche that a FXD is a blank canvas... it truly is. Kids got me forward controls that year, which was a great mod. I added a two-up seat and sissy bar for the bride.
Was pining away on a forum one time about how much I loved buckhorn bars, and damned if BHO member Sport-Ed didn't mail his bar from his '95 hugger. I drilled and internally wired these last winter.
Last summer, kids got me some V&H short shots off e-bay. ($120!)
This winter, I needed tires and a 20K service, the paint was looking a little tired. So, I borrowed a lift, inclinometer, torque wrenches, bought a Clymer, and went after it. Put on a set of Metzelers, bumped up the rear size one knotch, commissioned some paint for the tins, installed cam chain tensioners.
Was watching some e-bay auctions to score on some chrome cases, but did an alternative idea... I polished everything in sight!

Screwed on some chrome, put 'er back together last Sunday. Finally got to really shake it down tonight. Nothing leaks, nothing fell off. Pulled up next to a county sheriff tonight, and as I willed those pipes to be not so loud, he rolled his window down, pointed, and gave me the thumbs up!
Happy as a pig in new mud!
