She LIVES......

Well.... On July 19th at approximately 2:30 PM..... My BSA took a big breath and came alive. Oh what a nice feeling! (I had this worry that I would fry my boyer ignition or podtronic unit) I must have done a few things correctly. It was a sweet sound too. So on with a helmet ... oh not so fast..... tires need air.... double checked the oil.... saw a nice flow (good thing). Now... off we go to get some gas then a little shake down ride!

$5 in the tank (almost full).... and down the road I went. Brakes need adjusting.... clutch is different than what I am use to.... shifting also.... sitting posture is a bit different.... so off we go! Second gear.... man does she pull!!!! And sounds GREAT!!!! So I made some noise and varied the rpms... break in.... Just my luck I am turning right and a sheriff is turning left behind me. I had to behave... he was a few cars back..... then I heard something fall off the bike and rattle on the pavement. I had no idea what came off the bike... but I heard it. And I saw it back on the road. The sheriff stopped.... and asked if I needed help..... (mind you I had no paperwork etc on me) I told him I just lost something off the bike and he drove on. I found one of my custom pipe clamps.... and retrieved it and then removed the other half.... then off I went... heading back home!

At home, my neighbor came over... thought it looked and sounded great... but also said it probably would not be a good noise at 3 AM. (I agreed...) Then I noticed a fender strut bolt missing.... damn! I also noticed that my brilliant idea to use white header paint on the exhausts was now on my blue jeans!!! Well.... I replaced missing hardware... and checked how tight other things were.... I ordered some header wrap..... and then got back on for some more break in time.

I have a little oil leak.... tranny.... might be over filled..... (never checked). THe bike leans hard when on its side stand.... the transmission seals might need replacing etc. But for now.... she will just mark her spot!

She rides nice..... much different than a suspension bike.... but not horrid! I may be investing in a different seat as I felt like I would slide off this one. So there is a bit to get use to. The shifting isn't as nice as my Royal Star... as far as down shifting..... so a few things to look into.

She's fun to ride! And what a healthy sound she makes! Starts fairly easily... but I need to add a kill switch too!

A good day!

I actually bought that bike..... in 1995...... At the time I was actually going to go "stock"..... but it needed so much! Shortly after I got into the motor and found many problems.... I got side tracked. A friend sold me a triumph hard tail rolling chassis. I also acquired many triumph parts and a 1971 bonneville. I was then planning a custom... but a triumph. Time went by and I started collecting bits....

Meanwhile I was repairing the engine cases on the BSA and trying to get problems resolved..... I did not have many great sources to "help" me.... so I went slow trying to do things right! Every corner was an obstacle. Making a stock bike from something that was a mild custom was proving to be more work than I wanted.

I then met up with someone with a BSA hard tail frame..... ended up trading the triumph frame and some triumph cases.... and then I had the beginings of this hardtail. I've always loved BSA's and I know them much better than triumphs.... so I ended up getting rid of all the triumph parts etc.

I still would run into problems and would have to find the "real" info... and once I was assured... I could make some headway.....

Still..... even this morning I was turning some parts in my lathe for this. Wiring it was fun.... I don't think I would enjoy working on it on the side of the road though.....

Yeah.... its been a while...... and lots of life has gone on in between!

I have learned..... as a "young grasshopper"...... to snatch the pebble from the masters hand....but I was a slow learner!

But also the do's and don'ts...... like don't tie yourself up for near death masturbation.... LOL (R.I.P David C.)

The next build should be easier.... and I know all the good sources for parts etc. And all the right people to ask questions!

Richard,
The scoot rocks dude! One of the cleanest builds I've seen in a long time. Everything in the pics looks just right. Good detail work, just a clean build.
Hats off to ya dude. Tastefully done.

Ya just cant beat an old Beezer done right! Looking forward to the wrapped pipes pic.

Henry
