It RUNS again.......
Well after several weeks I fianally got to spend a few days on my Sportster. I have had this bike since August last year. I first just painted it, started picking up a few parts to fix the starter, clutch, and some electical problems.
Well finally today I finished it up. I installed a Spyke starter system, as the factory system would not work. It kept burning up starters. To much compression. When I got it I could kick it over with about 3 kicks and get her running. But I had a clutch problem.. I have only riden the bike .5 of a mile. Around the driveway.
Well the new starter kicked it right over. Didn't even have to use the compression releases in the heads.
During my parts search I picked up a baas seat pan. I decided to make the mounts for it and just put the pan on until I can get the funds to have it covered. Well it is installed.
During the time I had the bike in the shop, and after my paint job. I like a dummy dropped a fender on my front fender and now I have to repaint it. Well I wanted flames on the fender anyway.
Well thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
Roger...
ps. I will post some pictures of the upgrades as soon as i can download them from my camera.

Hey cool stuff Roger. Dont fret about the fender, it happens to us all. Shit, I had a freshly completed bike fall off the lift overnight once! My fault totally but man was I surprised in the morning when I opened the door and saw it. Think the neighbors learnt a few new words that day!!

Gonna let the dust settle a little and hit the road at the end of the month for a bit.

Here is a before and after of the starter system on my 76 Ironhead. Before I changed to the Spyke Starter, The OEM starter would not even turn over the engine. My engine has a S&S storker kit in it. Now it starts fast and easy.. Very good upgrade.
Plus it is a lot smaller. It is a little pricy, but well worth the money with the results. Easy install too.
I changed out the wires from the ignition swith to the starter to 10ga. Put a double ground wire, one to the frame and the second to the starter body. I put in a relay, a blue streak , really turns over great. When i was kicking it over, I had to use the compression released in the heads, or I could not kick it over. With the Spyke, no problems..

Well I made up the brackets to mount my Baas seat pan. I turned some posts for the springs. I still have to do the metal finish and paint them black.
A friend just offered me some leather working tools, I might attempt to cover my seat myself. Used to do leather work in grade school. I think I remember how to do it. But that was a long time ago, and I am having some senior moments from time to time, oh well all I can do it mess up some cow hide.
Here are some pics of the mount and pan.

They might be but they are almost a press fit.. I am going to grove the base so the springs sit on the perch better. Will have to see. I will take some pic's as soon as I get it off the lift. Still got a couple of small things that I want to do.

Well I decided to redo the seat bungs. I made them much longer. Then I nerled the bottom for some design. I painted the mounts with krinkle paint. I think they will be better now.
