New Trike Project...

I've just made a start on building a trike based on a Reliant three wheeled car drive line.

I was thinking about doing all sorts of "retro" stuff with it, but frankly, I ain't that interested in trikes per se trikes. I kind of enjoy moaning about building them though...

Anyway, a bit of a hunt round round the workshop turned up a pair of 17" wheels off of some sort of daft and bicurious hot hatchback type thingy, and a set (actually 2 sets) of GT750 Kawasaki forks.

With the driveline pulled from the Reliant and the 17s nailed onto the the axle, I propped the motor and tranny up on a block and propped the front end up more or less where I think it ought to go.

To give you an idea, the block of the motor from the front motor plate to the bellhousing, is 13" long.

It's a 750cc, water cooled. fourbanger.

Nice to see a new project like this coming to life. I hope you keep us in the loop with lots of pictures.

There is a rumor going around your going to put an AMC Pacer body on it, do you wish to confirm this?

At this time I can neither confirm nor deny any rumours of Pacer embodiment vis a vis the trike situation per se until further notice and/or clarification on the subject, should there in fact be a subject, is forthcoming from the relevant authorities, experts, and commitees in the departments concerned with the matter at hand and having a remit to contribute towards policy formation at an executive level.

Blackjack has a soft spot in his heart for the Pacer.

It must be the Green King Abbott Ale kicking in again.

Hey Blackjack,

You want to come over to Canada and be Prime Minister. Sounds like we may be needing a new one. Minority Governments suck.

The trike project looks pretty cool - when I was playing around with Minis years ago I thought about building a tadpole trike. Course I never got around to that.

While back I did a "kit" frame for the later Mini Metro. Drop the Metro subframe, pull the rack, bolt on the steering lock off, drop the frame over the subframe, fit the forks. There you go, one roller.

Then it turned out that all those people who say "I want a cheap trike frame" actually mean "I want a free trike frame because I'm a penniless wanker. Oh, and could you build it for me too, because I'm a useless wanker as well."

But hey, live and learn.

Blackjack,

You got a picture of the mini kit trike? Would like to see it if you don't mind posting it.
