My projects :)

Hey guys, not sure if you guys will dig these or not but thought I'd post them up anyway. Here's what I've been working on:

Street Legal Honda Monkey (1979 Honda Z50)
Nothing is stock besides the frame which was altered to accept the single shock and extended swingarm. Still need all DOT lights and a manitoba safety inspection.

Next is my 1976 Honda XR75 resto mod project. Going with a british road racer look with it. Keeping the brown seat, silver fenders and british green for the tank. With street-ish tires and maybe even clubman style bars

Re: My projects :)

Great stuff! I would love to do a resto on a z50 one day. They are getting hard to find these days.

Yeah the hardtails are getting hard to find. I still have those two frames forks and engines sitting, haven't figured what I'm going to do with them yet. I kinda wanna do one as a "rat rod", flat black with some pin striping, red rims and white walls. The other one might be an experiment with some new flip flop powder coat that just came out.

Fun stuff and some really interesting information on your web site. I'm not really into the Asian / Jap stuff but enjoyed poking around on your linked sites. I printed out the Caswell, An Introduction To Buffing & Polishing, that will make for good reference. Used to do a lot of polishing and looking to get back into it since the old FLHS has so much aluminum that needs polishing. All I need is time.

I see the frame in your picture looking all shiney and black with the vin sticker still intacted. I'm assuming you powder coated that frame, the question I have is does the heat from the powder coating process damage things like vin stickers or do you something to protect them other then just masking them off?

Re: My projects :)

The vin sticker on that frame is an aluminum plate that's rivited to the frame, I just left it on and masked it with regular ol' green painters tape. Did the same with the vin sticker on my CRF70 frame, the heat will soften the glue on an actual sticker so you have to be careful not to take the masking tape off too soon but you can't leave the mask on too long as once the frame cools the masking tape and sticker almost become one. I tried to remove the mask before sticking it in the oven once, but it's pretty tricky to peel it away without disturbing the surrounding powder or bumping or touching the frame somewhere else.
