Live-wire

Hi guys,

Seein' as I'm one of those people who can't bring himself to throw anything away, I looked at these two things and wondered where this might take me.

Let me know if you want to see more.

Later,
Keith

Re: Live-wire

I'll try to keep them in a somewhat logical order - this has been ongoing for a couple of months now (whenever I had some spare time while the CNC was running). I figured it was time to let it out of the bag.

The pallet jack was a gift from my friends at the Beer Store - I can't think of a better motor for a bar-hopper; can you?

I couldn't find anything anywhere to adapt the spline on the motor,so....

Re: Live-wire

I've been interested in electric vehicles for a long time. I actually bolted a 6v car starter and a 12v battery onto a bicycle when I was 12 or 13. It was scary fast for a little while - until it got too hot.

This summer my interest was rekindled by these guys. I hope this works - haven't tried the youtube feature before.

Re: Live-wire

I started with two 6v golf cart batteries (you can't carry these Trojans in your wallet boys); it accellerated about like a Honda 50. I would guess top speed to be about 35mph. No clue about range - I don't trust those old cracked tires more than a 1/2 mile.

I had an EV grin from ear to ear that first ride!

Re: Live-wire

As it sits right now it has four 6v batteries in series (24v). I don't have any kind of controller on it yet, so from a dead stop it draws about 600amps (I need to be able to limit that to 400). It has very respectable accelleration. Top speed - unknown; with those narrow bars and only one "hand brake" this fits that ebay description "not for the faint-hearted" perfectly!

I've got to catch a few zzz's now. Talk to you tomorrow.

Later,
Keith
