Thumbs up holly shit...so this is what its all about

after messing with all the norm i had a hell of a time getting my valve timming done but last night i stayed on it pulled it apart back together then she wouldn't even kick over left me in a bad state of no transpo its sucked and i knew i had to get this battle with the markings on cam pinion gears and main drive pininon , and the dreaded floating idler pinion gear . so still was working on it at 5oam this morning with coffee , hayes repair manual, and a half pack of smokes...yahoo its really close now with just setting valve clearance with feeler gauge tommarow when she's set long enough to be cold.
BUT I JUST ABOUT DID A BACKWARD FLIP WHEN I TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST RUN!!!!
BEFORE: i had no power off the launch and as rpm went up it top out at about 50mph or 60mph......and now it flys of the launch with an incredible amount of top end also that pinned me back and had my nuckels all whitened up. also i put my brake in the rear back together and adj. so i can lock up the rear wheel and finale adjsment to front brake . now she's trip worthy and i can see clocking putts of 250 miles a day.
and to think i almost sold it dirt cheep not even knowing what it could do before.

SO LETS NOT GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH. ALLWAYS, ALWAYS, AND YES ONE MORE TIME ALWAYS........MARK YOUR PINNIONS WHEN UR DOING A ENGIN REBUILD THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GET IT WRONG ....WITH INTAKE HAVING 3 DIFF KEYWAYS CUT IN IT . NOW I FEEL LIKE I CAN MAKE SOME RESPECTABLE 11SEC. RUNS IN THE 1/4 MILE DRAG STRIP.......RT OFF THE ROAD WITH MAYBE ONLY ADDING A WHILLY BAR TO KEEP ME DOWN IN FRONT END AND A NICE SLICK I THINK SHE'LL DO 10'S

lets just say one thing is for sure its running better then that bike has run in the past 30yrs

will add a video clip as soon as i get a camera that has sound

TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY!!!!!

Fantastic!!! After the build one always has that period of shake down and getting things just right. I tell you I was very impressed with the power my Trumpet made, lots of balls and get up and go! Glad you had a great day.

intake flang repair/refurbush

still getting all i can out of my triumph's 650cc i took my carbs off, and as i suspected i had a intake leak also from flangs being over tighten in the past. so i took a ceramic tile and wrapped it with 180 grit sand paper and got both carb flang and manafolds a new flat surface put new Orings and she's got running smother and a little more proformance .

now the bad news is we had a real heavy rain fall here in the past few days and keeps me from riding it, my timiming is terrible got her almost done just intime for winter,
so after a came back from a nice putt i roll in and (has anyone done this before? take my helmet off put my gloves inside the helmet with my glasses and set it down on its lid.....that night it started pouring down i forgot to put the bike in the garage so i go out when i noticed my helmet looked like a fish bowl plum full off water and my gloves and glasses floating. lmao.....here's some stills on carb work i just got done with.

Re: intake flang repair/refurbush

LOL Cant say I have done that before but I bet you wont do it again! lol So many of those Trump intakes/carbs are deformed from over tightening. A good lap like you have done and new seals and a little snug up and it should be leak free and good to go!

I feel your pain. A new build can drive ya nuts sometimes trying to get it to do what it's supposed to. I had a problem to. Took me weeks trying different things like carbs, checking wiring, checking everything. Turned out to be the eletronic ignition i put in. It runs on a wasted spark system and my enfield did not like it abit. Put the original points back in after i ran out of options to try, and runs beautiful. Just doesn't start a quick as the elec. ign. Enjoy your ride

Re: holly shit...so this is what its all about

thanks for the clue because i was thinking the same thing . on my t120r when i just pick it up it was a rolling basket but but with a lot of pull, grease ,oiling , unlocking sz piston. the normal lets clean it upper and see what we got. she started up with the old points that were in it. im having a noise that sounds like a short. or lifter is to tight or bent sticky valve, then on the other paw , i was thinking it could be the wasted spark , which i find to be just bad lazy designning team on boyers enginners. if it dont help dont just use it then find out what harm it does. im no expert by no means i was thinking the "ws" (wasted spark) is the reason for the sound im hearing but it only happens when its cold, do u think maybe cause im running wee bit too much oct. buster and unused gas on cold start thats getting ingnited on the exh. side then after she warms up it goes away . and theres no pattarn to the nois or click and mostly hear it on higher rpm . then again i could be barking up the wrong tree. how did the ws feel or sound, when u had it inyour putt.

but im riding so im getting in some good breakn in miles on mine ,but i did notice a vibration in front wheel at 55 - 60 so when i got home i pull up the front end and decided to check the spoks while i spend some quility time with my front end . other then brake adj was lit too tight was balance real close just using the old school way i was spinning slow use a must carry alway with old triumps a 6in. cresent wrench of very very high quility never ride with out it. run it hitting spoks and find the duds tightn tune spin find tune then i found a broken spoke. never had a broken spoke before i know cant be good . more the likely its cause of vib. so ive got a yam 250 see if i can swap for now one thing i dont want is a front wheel coming apart on me at any speed high or low.
that my next prob i must fix with my build more like fabup when i run out of prolbs. ill be so happy ..........i'll take it all apart again. and paint , recrome oil tank clean and coat both oil and gas tanks insides. b thats way down the road im still trying to get it out the driveway safe and return with all parts that i left with..........that would be nice.

Re: holly shit...so this is what its all about

Sorry for the delay. The electronic ignition system i was using is a Pazon system. Similar to boyer. What i found was i could not get a consistant idle. The bike would run ok for an hour or so then would break up real bad spitting and farting, like a valve was going to shoot out the pipe. I thought it was carbs but in a last ditch effort from trying everything else, i put the points back in. Anyway, apperantly, electronic ignituion needs a strong batterty and charging system. I bought the Pazon because of claims it would run on 8 volts. Bullshit. The reason, i think, the electronic ignition failed for me was my battery was just not big enough to carry it. Points run on lower resistance. Even with a low battery with a points system, at least on brits, the bike will start but run poorly when reved up. Even worse when headlights are on. I think the key is putting biggest battery you can fit in the bike and a good stator. Good carbs are key to. Not some used ebay carbs that someone is flogging because they wouldn't work for them. Fresh new carbs, fresh electrics.
I'm still going to give the Pazon another chance thou. I have to do some mods to fit a big battery in my bike first. It did start faster cold with electronic thou.
I put a big ass battery in Kevs old Trump and i drove that thing for a few hours in very hot temps and never skipped a beat. Same with my Enfield.
