Got a New Toy

Well I traded my 37 chev pickup for a new project. I was tired of working on the truck anyway and would rather build a bike.

It is a 1979 Low Rider frame with 2005 S&S Shovelhead engine. The bike is in the partial build stage. That is the engine is in the frame an some wiring is done. It has a 4 sp trans of unknown year.

here are a few pic's of it.

The tranny looks like a "cow pie" Rotary top.Late 79-84.Its not the most favored trans. Lots of them out there.Seam to be the cheaper of the 4 spds to be had. They had linkage issues.I have one in my 70 shovel. Fab Kevin makes a jockey shifter for the trans.

Roger: Looks like a good project, I love shovels. A friend of mine had one of those setups and he had 0 clearance between the rear head/rockerbox and the seat post downtube. This caused him a bunch of problems. If you have this problem just dent the downtube in the appropriate area. He also had a real vibration problem but we fixed most of it by making sure everything was properly aligned, shimmed and torgued down. Make sure you use a good sturdy top engine mount. Have fun!!!!! The engine is a 80inch, The tranny is what came with the frame, I have another fresh rebuilt unit but it looks the same except it has a kick start also. I have a bunch of parts all in boxes, dont know what all i have yet.

I am in the middle of two projects, pulling a 6 speed baker out of my son in laws, 2004 Swift Punisher, and paint tins for a friend trike.

Thanks for the nice words. I have not decided what all I am going to do with this yet. I have as set of fatbobs i have been wanting to paint so i might just use them on this bike. I just got tired of working on the 37 chev. I bought a 1964 Ford Custom Cab Stepside to drive and decided to trade the 37 for this project.

Here is a pic of the other tranny that came with the bike. It looks newer than the one in the frame. It has a kick starter that can be put on.

There are also a couple of pic of the other boxes.. I have 2 sets of air shocks, one black and one chrome, Plus several sets of coil over type. Couple of starters, an inner primary but no outer primary, and there is a crack in ther inner primary. I dont know if a 79 ran a dry clutch or wet. I dont have a manual yet for it. A couple of fenders, clutch and basket, with primary chain, and a bunch of other stuff. When I get to the project i will start a thread showing the progress.

What a score! Way to go Roger. That trans is a cow pie. Keep the pics coming of this one. I thought you were retired. Go sit on the porch and leave all these cool projects for us youngins! LOL

Kevin, I have noticed that most of the people in my old profession, have a tendancy to die. They either drink their selfs to death or shoot their self.

So i am keeping busy so that i dont have time to do that.

besides the guy that has to most toys when he dies wins. I dont know what he wins but thats what they say.
