cutting stuff

i have a 02 sportster 883r that for the most part has been sharpened to a point. suspension raised for cornering, engine for racing, rearsets and clipons for better weight distribution.
yesterday and today started cutting stuff off my bike...
g/f is getting dinner ready, gonna add progress pics in a bit.

Re: cutting stuff

ok, gonna have to add pics tomarrow. Rain is coming and bike had to be put away. its ok though cause it looks ugly. ive got a vision but 100% so i had to start cutting to see how one piece would affect others. actually its not really ugly, the only thing ugly is the hacking i did. i need some grinding wheels to smooth it all out.

Re: cutting stuff

so , i know this is nothing new to most of you guys. but i started by removing strut covers and turn signal stalks and cut the struts just behind first hole behind shock bolt. that hole has a boss that sticks out. i ground down even and mounted turn signal to that hole. the bolt is a center nutted stud which prvents lights from sitting flush. gonna get threaded rod to replace that and weld a nipple to strut so lights dont rotate incase the nut comes loose.
Next thing i did is a crime in most states...i cut the rear springs to drop the rear. I know its a bad idea but i wanted to see what it would look like lowered.
I plan to cut the fender in several spots. one cut will follow arch of fender and other will cut across fender so it will stop just rear of center line of tire. also since im gonna use threaded rod for turn signals im gonna shorten the stalks. i already had to bend exhaust because muffler scrapes on turns.
so far i like the way it looks. with rearsets and clip ons and now lowered it looks like a dragracer for the street.
ill add better and more pics in a few days, rain is to hit here.

Re: cutting stuff

Lager, check out my fender treatment, I used 1/4 cold roll around the edge of the fender to add support and some design.. then I bondoed it in...

I did the front fender the same way.

I like it!
when mine is all trimmed down im thinking of using thin steel rods to add support to rear of fender the way older HD's had. i have a million and one ideas running through my head so all the things i mentioned might change anyway. Oh well, ill add pics of progress and if anyone has an opinion good or bad please share. sometimes the people who holdback have an even better idea and im willing to listen.

Thanks, jim
