81 Ironhead again

Well I finally made the big step and put a hardtail on the Ironhead.I ended up modifying the frame to accept a hardtail for the 57-78 model Sporties. I just had to extend the backbone 5 inches. I also cut off the four one inch tubes from the rear engine mount and will be adding two tubes just like the 57-78 Sporties.I'm waiting on a Moon Eyes oil tank to get here and I will finish up the frame. Let me know what ya think.

Re: 81 Ironhead again

It's hard to explain so I will try to get some pictures for comparison.

Re: 81 Ironhead again

I just got these pic's off the Chop Cult website and you can see the two tubes running from just behind the rear head to the rear engine mount. I wanted to eliminate these and have those tubes run further back just like the early model Sporties. I have those tubes cut and will be welding them tomorrow and will post them tomorrow and then you will understand.

Re: 81 Ironhead again

I see, you'll run them behind the oil tank instead of in front.

Re: 81 Ironhead again

I got the two tubes welded in today so you can get a better idea of where I'm going with this bike. Also mocked up my oil tank mount so here's a shot of that.
