I have not even thought about an exact time to retire. (no pension here)

I wonder when they will put me out to pasture.....

The wife and I don't have pensions either but we watch our money, invest in 401k's and save as much as possible. Eventhough we have modest incomes we have been able to save by being conservative, driving the same car (we usually buy new or near new cars cause of how long we keep them) for 10 or more years and we have lived in the same house for 39 years. When the house and car are paid off you would be surprised at how much you can save. I could retire now if I had health benefits.

All that being said I may continue working past 7 years only because I don't want to waiste potential income and have to live like a miser trying to make sure my money last. Also I see alot of men retire and in six months they are out looking for other jobs. They usually get one making around a third of what they made in the job they left.

Also the house has been an excellent investment and my wife is as cheap, I mean conservative as I am.
